SEED MAIZE

In July 2022, Farm For The Future entered into a long-term strategic contract with Seed Co Tanzania as the off-taker of the maize seed produced at FFF farm. Seed Co is the leading certified seed company in Africa. For many years Tanzania has been importing improved maize seeds hybrids at a very high cost. FFF is devoted to producing quality maize seed, under advanced mechanization and expertise.

POTATO SEED

In 2024, Farm For The Future began producing and multiplying high-quality potato seeds in partnership with a leading Dutch company, aiming to supply the local Tanzanian market. FFF is committed to expanding its potato production to become fully certified in producing its own seeds for sale locally. To support this growth, the farm is planning a state-of-the-art cold storage facility to ensure seed potatoes maintain optimal quality and viability. Through advanced farming techniques, mechanization, and expert agronomy, FFF is strengthening local potato production while supporting smallholder farmers with reliable, high-quality seed.

OTHER PRODUCES

Farm For the Future is also diversifying into fish farming and beekeeping. The beekeeping project has a dual purpose: it will generate additional income while enhancing pollination for macadamia crops, directly boosting yields and quality. In addition, the farm is cultivating legumes and sunflowers in the non-irrigated areas, as well as intercropping legumes with macadamia during the first four years of tree growth before the canopy closes. This approach provides farmers with supplementary income while also improving soil fertility through nitrogen fixation, creating a strong, complementary effect across the production cycle.

MECHANIZATION

With the invaluable support of Kverneland Group and Underhaug AS in Norway, Farm For the Future (FFF) has already made specialized equipment for smallholder farmers available such as rippers, potato planters, and potato harvesters respectively. We are currently in dialogue with suppliers, potential donors, and financial institutions to secure funding for additional equipment, including a 110 HP tractor, a 4-row planter, and an 800-litre boom sprayer. With these resources in place, FFF will be able to launch a fully operational mechanization service.

The latest equipment available at FFF including machinery for stone collection will provide farmers with affordable access to services such as:

  • iconRipping
  • iconStone collecting
  • iconPlanting
  • iconSpraying
  • iconPotato harvesting

Already, farmers from AMCOS are lined up and ready to pay for these services, highlighting both the demand and sustainability of this initiative.

Starting in 2026, smallholder farmers in Tanzania will have direct access to Norwegian-designed agricultural equipment through Farm For the Future (FFF).

n 2025, Underhaug AS a renowned Norwegian manufacturer and exporter of first-class farm machinery began construction of a dedicated equipment showroom and service hall at FFF. This facility will serve as a hub for demonstration, training, and sales of modern equipment tailored for smallholder farmers.

As part of their generous support, Underhaug has already donated a potato planter and potato harvester to FFF. These machines are actively in use at the Yara Knowledge Center on the FFF farm, where they not only improve production but also serve as vital training tools for farmers. Specially designed for small-scale use, the equipment makes potato farming easier, more affordable, and more productive.

With this partnership, Underhaug will make its full range of innovative machinery available in Tanzania, using FFF as the regional demonstration and sales point ensuring farmers can access the right tools to scale their productivity and incomes.
